Trouble loading HBUSA?

Below is a list of common questions that we're asked. Please note that they are general out of game questions. Most of the in game questions can be answered by reading our FAQ section.

Q: Help! I'm getting the error message: "Missing .dll files"?

A: If the client does not start after running the auto-updater (Helbreath.exe), or you get an error regarding missing .dll files, please download the following patch: Click here! Extract the files in to your Helbreath USA folder.

Q: what if your auto updater is still not working and you have the most recent patch?

  1. Browse to C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc
  2. Double click on the hosts file.
  3. Select notepad as the editor for this file. A textfile will open.
  4. Add the following to the bottom:
    72.233.4.23   update.helbreathusa .com
  5. Save and close, then restart Helbreath

You can also look at our downloads page to download the most recent patch!

Q: Lagging / Disconnecting while using Vista?

To define the problem, Microsoft have stated the following: Vista introduces a new feature called “Receive Window Auto-Tuning”. What it does is to adjust the receive windows size continually based upon the changing network conditions. You can see this article if you are interested in details.

Some people reported that auto-tuning cause network time-out problems with some applications and routers. You can turn it off if you have experienced such problems.

  • Open up an elevated command prompt1.
  • Enter the following command to disable auto-tuning
netsh interface tcp set global autotuninglevel=disabled
If you find that this doesn’t fix your problem, we (iEnt) suggest you turn it back on, and then disable it again. Some players have reported that they then got a result.

To turn it on the following needs to be done:
  • Open up an elevated command prompt1.
  • Enter the following command to disable auto-tuning
netsh interface tcp set global autotuninglevel=normal

So by disabling Auto Tuning, then enabling it, and then disabling it again, has been reported to give a good result.

We hope this helps you with your problem.

Note: A reboot might be needed between each change.
1 = When you first use Vista’s command prompt as an administrator, you might be surprised to know that you don’t get any admin priviledges. On Vista, you’ll need to elevate the command prompt in order to do admin functions. Here is how you get an elevated command prompt.

   1. Click on Start button.
   2. In the Search box, type in Command Prompt. Command Prompt will show up in the search results.
   3. Right click on Command Prompt icon and select Run as administrator.
   4. Enter the admin credential and you are ready to go.

Q: Lagging when lots of monsters / players on the screen

This is possibly because you have a dual-core or quad-core processor in your computer. Helbreath does not like how windows load-balances the game over the multiple cores. There is a simple solution for that, and that is disabling other cores for HB!

With Helbreath loaded:

   1. Rightmouse on a empty spot on your start-bar (Middle) and pick Task Manager.
   2. In the task manager, open up the Processes tab.
   3. In that list, find the helgame.exe process and rightclick on it.
   4. Pick the option Set Affinity (Last one) *.
   5. Remove the checkmark at ALL CPU X except for CPU0.

* What if you do not have this option? Then you have no dual or quad core processor and your lag is caused by something else.

There, you're done! Remember, windows does NOT save this for you, so you have to do this each time you start HB!
